If you’ve seen talking-head videos where the camera suddenly punches in for a second or slowly zooms closer while someone is speaking, you might be wondering how they’re doing it.
The good news is you don’t need to record your video from different camera angles. You can create those changes while editing one video clip.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to add zoom effects in the Edits app, including both a quick zoom-in cut and a slower, smoother zoom. These small changes can add a little more visual interest to a simple talking-head video and help hold someone’s attention while you’re speaking.
How do you make a video zoom in using the Edits app?
There are two different techniques shown in the video.
For a quick punch-in effect, you’ll learn how to split a small section of your video and enlarge just that piece of the clip. This creates the sharper cut you often see in Reels and other short-form videos.
For a gradual zoom, you’ll use keyframes. Keyframes tell the Edits app where you want the zoom to begin and where you want it to end. The app then creates the movement between those two points.
I’ll walk you through exactly where to tap, how to split your clips, where to find the keyframe button, and how to preview the finished effect.
If you’ve been wanting your talking-head videos to have a bit more movement without making your editing complicated, watch the video below and follow along in the Edits app.
