Can you feel the energy shifting online? It’s significant and deep. And it’s an opportunity. We need to ensure privacy for small businesses is addressed.
Something is happening, and I’ve felt it for a while. I’m sure you have too. In this world of Google, Facebook, and privacy concerns, the European Union (EU) has taken a big step to protect personal data.
You’ve likely noticed your inbox filling up with privacy policy updates. This is a good thing.
What’s All the Hullabaloo?
The EU passed a law that took effect on May 25. It’s called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). In simple terms, website owners must be more transparent about how they collect and process personal data, such as names and email addresses, for EU residents.
I’m taking this as a sign to be more strategic about the information I send you in newsletters.
I like visiting your inbox from time to time. If you’re on my list, you know I’m not a spammer—it’s usually no more than twice a month. Sometimes even less if I’m in introvert mode.
Here’s what my inbox looked like just yesterday:

What’s all the hullabaloo you ask?
The EU passed a law that becomes enforceable on May 25. It’s called GPDR (General Data Protection Regulation). In it’s simplest terms, it means website owners need to be a lot more transparent in how they collect and process personal information like names and email addresses for individuals who live in the EU.
I’m taking this as a message from the universe that it’s time I get much more strategic about the kind of information I send you in newsletters.
I like visiting your inbox from time to time (if you’re already on my list, you’ll know by now that I’m not a spammer — it’s likely no more than twice a month, less if I’m in heavy introvert mode!) so I’m taking this opportunity today to let you know about the kinds of data I keep. (Like using my newsletter provider, Mailchimp, who keep your name and email safe and secure so no spammers will get your email).
Here’s the bottom line:
- If at any time you want to unsubscribe from emails from me, you can do so by clicking unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter.
- In case you’re curious (or from the EU), I’ve updated my privacy notice to explain exactly how I use any information you share with me. You can read it here.
- I will continue to show up in your inbox from time to time with blog posts or tutorials or opportunities that I believe are valuable. I won’t just create a newsletter because I think you need to hear from me. My goal is to honestly provide actionable and helpful content for you.
- A few weeks ago I did some market research and discovered that so many of you would like access to tutorials, training, and a community where you can ask your questions about building a business online in a safe, unassuming environment. I’m thrilled to introduce to The Clarity Collective – a closed and safe Facebook community hosted by me to support you. Ask to join…I’d love to have you!
